Rules Interpretations - If you are unsure of a particular rule or guideline,
please call us to inquire. For a clear decision concerning material
your group is doing, you MUST send a video tape of the material in question.
Verbal approval alone from the US Spirit office of material in question
does not guarantee that a penalty will not be incurred during a competition.

Division Limitations
To help maintain competitive
divisions for everyone, limitations have been placed on the material permitted.
Please review the limitations below to see which best define your level.
Novice Divisions
BASKET TOSS LIMITS: All flips & twists
from tosses are prohibited. Toe touches and tuck kick-outs are allowed.
EXTENDED STUNT LIMITS: ALL Single leg extended stunts are prohibited whether
they be in a partner stunt or pyramid. This includes extended stunts which
are supported by another brace of any kind. If its extended on a single
leg, its NOT PERMITTED. TWIST LIMITS: ALL twists are prohibited from tosses
or cradles. BACKWARD DISMOUNT LIMITS: ALL backward dismounts from partner
stunts or pyramids are prohibited. SQUAD TUMBLING LIMITS: Synchronized
squad tumbling, (i.e., squad back handsprings, tucks, etc.), is prohibited.
INDIVIDUAL TUMBLING LIMITS: No twists are permitted during squad or individual
tumbling.
Intermediate / Prep Divisions
BASKET TOSS LIMITS: All flips from tosses are prohibited.
EXTENDED STUNT LIMITS: Single leg extended stunts above shoulder level
are permitted. TWIST LIMITS: Twists greater than one rotation are prohibited
from tosses or cradles. BACKWARD DISMOUNT LIMITS: ALL backward dismounts
from partner stunts or pyramids are prohibited. SQUAD TUMBLING LIMITS:
Synchronized squad tumbling greater than squad back handsprings, is prohibited.
INDIVIDUAL TUMBLING LIMITS: No twists are permitted during squad or individual
tumbling.
Other Divisions

EXTENDED STUNT LIMITS: None. TWIST LIMITS: Twists greater than two rotations

are prohibited during a backward dismount. SQUAD TUMBLING LIMITS: None.
INDIVIDUAL TUMBLING LIMITS: Double flips (or greater) are prohibited.

School Cheerleading
Squads & Recreation League Team General Rules
School Cheerleading Squads & Recreation League Team General Rules
1. School squads may not exceed 30 members including
the mascot if a part of the routine. There is no maximum number for Recreation
League Squads.
2. Each squad will have 2:30 (two and thirty seconds) to perform its routine.
Each squads performance must include at least one cheer or one sideline
chant. The routine must contain a music portion or portions. The music
portion may be divided into as many sections as desired and you may use
as many songs as you wish.
3. You may use signs, megaphones, flags, or poms in your routine. No other
props will be permitted. Illegal use of props will result in a twenty
point penalty per infraction.
4. Exceeding the time limit will result in a twenty-five point deduction
from the total score. It is recommended that you allow enough time in
your total routine time for speed variations in sound equipment.
5. Timing will begin with the first movement, voice, or note of music,
whichever comes first. All introductions, tumbling, chants, spellouts,
etc., are considered part of the routine and will be timed as part of
the total performance. Squads must begin in the competition area with
at least one foot on the ground. Squads may line up anywhere inside the
competition area.
6. Timing will end with the last motion, move, or note of music. There
should not be any organized exit or other activity at the end of the routine.
7. In the event your routine is interrupted due to failure of tournament
equipment, facilities, etc., you will be permitted to restart your routine
from the beginning. If your routine is interrupted due to failure of your
equipment or supplies, you may either continue or withdraw from the competition.
If an injury occurs during your performance, you may either continue or
withdraw from the competition. Competition officials reserve the right
to stop a performance due to an injury. School Cheerleading Squads &
Rec Team Routine Guidelines
1. Pyramids and stunts are limited to two persons high. Pyramid height
is determined by body lengths (i.e., a shoulder stand is two high, a shoulder
straddle is one and one-half high). Extended stunts are considered two
high. The bottom person must have at least one foot on the ground.
2. Height increasing devices are prohibited.
3. Toe pitches are prohibited.
4. All double and triple flips from tosses are prohibited.
5. Front, back, and side tension rolls are prohibited.
6. Single base split catches are prohibited.
7. You may not flip, jump, vault, or swan dive through, over, or under
partner stunts or pyramids.
8. All basket tosses must be performed from ground level and be dismounted
to a cradle position by the original bases and must have a spotter in
back. All basket tosses are limited to no more than four tossers.
9. All cradles from single base pyramids must use two catchers.
10. Helicopter tosses or spins are prohibited.
11. Forward suspended rolls where the person flipping is continually holding
the bases hands are permitted as long as the base or bases have their
feet on the ground. Backward suspended rolls are prohibited.
12. Front or side knee drops are prohibited.
13. Partner stunts and pyramids must have a continuous spotter for each
person over shoulder stand level. Spotters must be part of the squad performing.
14. A forward three quarter flip to the seat is prohibited.
15. Twists greater than two rotations are prohibited.
16. Chair back flips, liberty front and back flips, flips into partner
stunts, and chairs with a twist dismount are not permitted.
17. Backward dismounts from partner stunts or pyramids must use three
catchers. Twists, toe touches, etc., are prohibited during a backward
dismount.
18. Toe touches to hurdler positions or to the back in a prone position
are prohibited.
19. Guideline infractions will be assessed a ten point penalty per infraction
from the total score.

All Star Rules
& Guidelines
All-Star Cheerleading Squad General Rules
NOTE: Be sure to read the specific limitations for
Novice and Intermediate Divisions.
1. Squads may not exceed 35 members including the mascot if a part of
the routine.

and may be performed over the music. The music portion may be divided
into as many sections as desired and you may use as many songs as you
wish. Routines are not required to be all music.

Dance Team Rules &
Guidelines
Dance Team Rules & Guidelines
1. There is no limitation to the number of dancers
permitted on the floor.
2. Each team will have 2:30 (two minutes and thirty seconds) to perform
its routine. Style of dance is your preference; (Pom, Jazz, Funk, or Kick).
Emphasis will be placed on synchronization and visual effect. You may
use as many songs as you wish. No tumbling is permitted. School uniforms
or costuming may be worn.
4. Jazz: Combination of dance movements with an emphasis on technical
execution and use of formation changes. Hand held props are allowed in
this category.
Pom: Emphasis on uniformity and utilization of strong pom pon motions
for strong visual effect. 75% of the routine must be executed with poms.
No props (except for poms) allowed.
Funk: Creative use of the latest street-style moves with an emphasis on
uniformity. No props allowed.
Kick: Emphasis on variety of kick series, control, uniformity of height,
timing, toe points and team stamina. 75% of the routine must incorporate
kick patterns. No props allowed.

from the total score. It is recommended that you allow enough time in

the tape.
14. A ten point penalty per judge will be assessed to any team violating
any specific rules as stated above.
